Stress is a normal part of life. In small quantities, stress is good -- it can motivate you and help you be more productive. However, too much stress, or a strong response to stress, is harmful.

Pay close attention to stress in your life: You can learn to identify the things that stress you out, how to take control of many stress-inducing circumstances, and how to take care of yourself when you face events you can't control.  Whenever you feel your heart pounding in the chest, muscles tensing up, breath coming faster, or every sense on red alert, something in this situation is causing stress, and identify it.

Take care of yourself: exercise, use relaxation techniques like yoga, make healthy nutritional choices, have social support networks and professional psychotherapy.  The payoff of managing stress is peace of mind and a healthier life.
